Dover Water Polo Victorious at Dover Regatta Dragon Boat Race
Dover Water Polo Club ended seven years of hurt with a resounding victory in this year’s dragon boat race at the Dover Regatta. The water polo team’s “Dragon Express” started the day with the second fastest time to Dover Rugby’s “Shark Express” in the first round of races, with a time of just under 49 seconds. “Dragon Express” then improved to post the fastest times in both rounds 2 and 3, with the latter being the day’s fastest time of 47.99. This meant that they qualified for the semi-finals with the fastest accumulative time and pitched them against 2010 champions Dover Rugby, who had beaten them in that final. This motivated Dover Water Polo to post another day’s fastest time with 47.14 and left Dover Rugby over a boat length behind and eliminated them from the competition. The other semi-final was a much closer affair with the 3 teams separated by less than a second, and saw debutants Folkestone Water Polo’s “One Up All Up” edge out “Dirty Oars” in an exceptionally tight race. Having reached the final on numerous occasions previously, skipper and veteran, Jason Harvey, was determined not to let the opportunity for victory slip away again. The team did not let him down and left “One Up All Up” and “Dirty Oars” in their wake with another impressive time of 47.64. After presentations and celebrations the skipper’s promised to return to defend the title in 2012 in his 50th year!

Team: Jason Harvey, Lee Wakeham, Nigel Whitehead, Paul Sell, Conan Harvey, Matt Basford, Dima Miller, Neil Harvey, John Reidy, Bradley Harvey, Sean Matthews, Jim Davis, Stuart Davies, Kye Westgarth, Kevin McCaulden, Mitch Harvey (drummer).
On behalf of the team, can I thank Elaine for the fantasic food prep and presentation, Lee for use of what must have been the biggest BBQ in East Kent and all those that contributed to a great day for the Club.
It is with deep regret that I have to report the uncalled-for appearance, and frankly quite disturbing exhibitionism of the Skippers Budgie-Smugglers in public. Despite repeated calls from both friends, family and race organisers, Jason continued to openly flout official guidelines relating to acceptable behaviour at a family event. Extreme care should be taken on Thursday to avoid distress to all but the hardened beach goers when viewing the inevitable "Jason Budgie Harvey is on every page " edition of the Dover Express. You have been warned !
Congratulation is Jase and the Team on a job well done..
