DLGC_Dover_SharkWater Polo dates back to the mid 19th century, with  its origins and rules resembling a form of aquatic rugby. The word polo comes from  the Indian "pulu" meaning ball. A more formal set of rules were created by the London Swimming Assocoation in 1870. Modern day Water polo spans the globe and has a small but vibrant community with regular National and International tournaments.
